The Spelling Bee at the American College!!!

The National Spelling Bee Competition at the American College!!!

This year’s National Spelling Bee competition was held on Saturday, (07.04.2012)  at the American College in Skopje. There were more than 900 participants, starting from the primary schools, to the 3th and 4th year high school students, from all over Macedonia. The impressions from that day were that this year’s competition was a huge success.
The volunteers from the Peace Corps were doing everything so that the participants could feel great. There were rooms for entertainment and also, the participants could watch interesting and funny movies.
But, the real fun started when the participant’s time to compete started. You could almost feel their hearts racing... Since there were lots of participants,   Mini Bees were organized in separate rooms, and then the finalists of each room were combined in one major room where the finals took place. By doing this the judges could do their job faster and easier.
The greatest event of this competition was the arrival of the American ambassador Paul Wohlers. The students from 3th and 4th year High school had the opportunity to show their talent in spelling in front of the ambassador. In the end, the ambassador presented the winners with the second and first place prices.  He also gave a speech in which he said that, those who didn't win shouldn’t   be disappointed because he is very proud of Macedonia’s young generations. He even mentioned that if he was in the competing line, but, in Macedonian language, he would fail at the beginning.
So, for those of you who didn't win anything, DON'T GIVE UP!!! You earned a big experience at this competition. Use it as your advantage next year, and there might still be  a chance for you to win.
Just to let you know that there was one participant from Negotino who won second place in the  5th grade category. It’s the primary school student Vane Mirchev, studying at OOU “Goce Delcev” - Negotino Congratulations to him!!!
